Search interest over time

How often people search for thiamine (vitamin b1) on Google, US only, the last 5 years. This is public interest, not DSLD label data — a spike here doesn't necessarily line up with anything on this page, and Google's own index (100 = that term's peak popularity in the chosen window) is relative, not an absolute search-volume count.

Forms explained

Thiamine Hydrochloride (Thiamine HCl) Tier 1

Elemental fraction: 78.7% (thiamine cation MW 265.36 / thiamine HCl MW 337.26 (both confirmed PubChem formulas))

Both HCl and mononitrate are salts of the same thiamine cation and both are GRAS vitamin sources, so they are treated as equivalent on chemical grounds; no human head-to-head bioavailability trial was located. HCl's higher water solubility is used in liquid/injectable products.

Source: 21 CFR 184.1875 (thiamine hydrochloride); 21 CFR 184.1878 (thiamine mononitrate). The EFSA opinions PMC12035548/PMC11979709 are animal-feed authorisation opinions, not human bioavailability evidence.

Thiamine Mononitrate Tier 1

Elemental fraction: 81.1% (thiamine cation MW 265.36 / thiamine mononitrate MW 327.36 (confirmed PubChem formula))

Same rationale as HCl -- a salt of the same thiamine cation, treated as equivalent on chemical grounds (no human head-to-head trial located); preferred for fortification for stability (HCl is hygroscopic), not for superior bioavailability.

Source: 21 CFR 184.1875 (thiamine hydrochloride); 21 CFR 184.1878 (thiamine mononitrate)

Benfotiamine (fat-soluble synthetic prodrug) Unrated

Early trials suggested neuropathy-symptom benefit, but longer/larger trials (BOND 12-month, 24-month T1D) found no significant benefit on nerve function despite good tolerability -- superior-bioavailability claims are not settled.
